Strengthening the company: the principle of resilience
Resilience is the capacity to emerge invigorated from difficult situations. A.Antonovsky and other scientists have studied this subject matter for many decades.
We at ComTeam have continued this study and asked the question: How is it possible to apply the principle of resilience on companies and organizations? The main questions are: What is it that makes companies strong and resilient? Which are the decisive cultural components and communication patterns?
Four factors are crucial for resilience:
1. Understanding
To understand challenging and critical situations in a way that executives and employees stay capable of acting
Distinguish what can be influenced and what cannot
Communicate the information in a way that is understandable and digestible
2. Feasibility
To stay capable of acting, to direct the course of things
Trust in well proven strengths and capacities
3. Meaning
Give meaning to the situation and communicate meaning; make sure to communicate believably the necessary steps and stick to the course
For companies to stay successful in the long run, what they are doing needs to be meaningful
4.Social Competence
Building up a broad network of social relationships is necessary.
Make use of the network and get support from it
Get orientation from others
Cooperate and use partnerships
It is possible to learn the effectiveness of the four factors of resilience and to enhance them. We have developed some tools specifically applicable in this area.

And this was another topic of the evening of ComTeam Austria in Vienna which called forth much interest.
Our ComTeam colleagues Andrea Bumharter, Heide Straub and Bettina Schäfer were providing a thorough insight into the capacity of human resilience, from the results of the scientific research to our own research and the application of the principle of resilience in management consultation and coaching!
